This is Doreen, 5th child of a family 12.Today she is married and a mother of four, her parents were reluctant to send her to school because she was a woman, as a result sent into marriage, she is into embroidery and design of traditional regalia, but her growth as an individual and business has been hindered because of her difficulties in reading and writing.But, Doreen’s life transformed when she was able to enroll in our Adult Literacy Program, which helps adults (especially women) who were not opportune to go to school or dropped out of school get back on track.
Today, she is learning to read and write, as well as learning math, and basic computer skills. She is hopeful for her future. n
Economic empowerment
This is Emmaculate, she is married and a mother of three, together with her husband, they lived in a village called Njinikom, where she was a petty trader and her husband a farmer, because of armed conflict in the North West And South West Region of Cameroon, their homes and properties were destroyed, causing them to flee to the nearby town of bamenda for safety.During a needs assessment exercise, she and others were identified and she was assisted through our women micro-empowerment scheme, in which we assist women with financial start-up assistance to restart lost livelihoods.
Today, she has a petty trading kiosk worth of about 250,000cfa in capital. From here she is able to assist the husband in catering for the family.
